Privacy Notice

This notice sets out how we will process your personal data, and your rights. It is made under Articles 13 and/or 14 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).

This Privacy Notice is about the data provided by a user when registering for the newsletter of GREAT Talent website, and how this data is processed, protected and managed.

We will process the following personal data:

  • When you register:
    • Name
    • Email address
    • Whether emails are opened and links clicked, to gauge your continued interest in our content.

The GREAT Talent website, advertising and email communications were previously run by Cabinet Office. The creation of the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology means that we have taken over the running of this programme (GREAT Talent) and your personal data was obtained by us from Cabinet Office, 70 Whitehall, London, SW1A 2AS.

2. Purpose

The purpose(s) for which we are processing your personal data is:

  • . We will use your personal contact details to:
    provide you with updates about working in science, research or technology within the UK, via email if you have registered interest on the website.  This will include new case study videos, as well as research grants and opportunities.
  • To monitor the progress and operational delivery of the GREAT Talent campaign for evaluation purposes, so we can understand its impact and to inform future government policy.

3. Legal basis of processing

The legal basis for processing your personal data under Article 6 of the UK GDPR is:

1(a) Consent: You consent to the processing of your personal data to receive GREAT Talent newsletters from us. Should you change your mind, you can withdraw consent at any time by contacting GREAT Talent via the contact information below or unsubscribe from GREAT Talent and its newsletter from the newsletter’s unsubscribe link.

Your personal data will be shared by us with:

We will share your data with a direct emailing system for which we will arrange a contract, who will act as a processor for Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). We will be sharing data with Digital Unlimited Group Limited (UNLIMITED), the contracted agency who support the DSIT to manage our website and email communications and will act as a data processor for DSIT.

5. Retention

Your personal data will be kept by us for 2 years or until the point you withdraw your consent. We will also send periodic communications to you to ensure you are still happy to remain on our mailing list. You can withdraw consent at any time by email MarketingCampaigns_DSIT@dsit.gov.uk requesting to unsubscribe by unsubscribing from the GREAT Talent newsletter’s unsubscribe link which will be in every email communication we send to you.

6. International Transfers

Your personal data will be processed in the UK.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to request information about how your personal data are processed, and to request a copy of that personal data.

You have the right to request that any inaccuracies in your personal data are rectified without delay.

You have the right to request that any incomplete personal data are completed, including by means of a supplementary statement.

You have the right to request that your personal data are erased if there is no longer a justification for them to be processed.

You have the right in certain circumstances (for example, where accuracy is contested) to request that the processing of your personal data is restricted.

You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data where it is processed for direct marketing purposes.

You have the right to withdraw consent to the processing of your personal data at any time, just email MarketingCampaigns_DSIT@dsit.gov.uk requesting to unsubscribe.

You have the right to request a copy of any personal data you have provided, and for this to be provided in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format.
